What a Blessing What a Blessing…
Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah
We planted a tiny sapling about two and a half years ago and today it has become Maryam’s favorite place!
She spends most of the day in the tree. She climbs up and down the tree like a little monkey.. and plays many games upon its branches… its her little world up above the ground!
And the tree is so perfect for her.. its not too big and not too small.. just right…
its branches are soft to touch.. they don’t have a hard bark on them…
and they are not too thin and not too fat.. they are perfect for her little hands to get a good grip when she jumps and grabs a branch to swing… and the soft bark doesn’t burn her skin when her hands slide …
and what’s more.. the branches are not stiff and hard.. but are supple.. they bend a little when she swings from them.. and don’t snap. Yet!
The tree is the Kukui Nut tree.. with large leaves that look like a hand… I think we should make a list of trees like this one, for various other parts of the world, trees that are easy to climb, easy to swing from, whose branches are not too rough or too fat to grab and swing from, and other such ‘child friendly’ qualities to encourage parents to plant such trees when their children are born so they can then have a wonderful play tree and friend when they are ready… this will surely be a good ‘teacher’ in making them better stewards of the earth… better ‘khalifah tul ard’.
Of course our neighbors here in the USA are terrified to see our little children up so high in the tree… they worry about them falling… and we feel they worry too much in America.. everyone worries too much in America! worry about the wrong things…
Anyway, Maryam was worried too when her brothers also started to like the tree..
Alhamdulillah!
Assalamu alaikum,
Nice post. Didn’t knew that a tree could grow that tall in 2.5 years.
Subhanallah———-while growing along with nature, children learn to play observe and understand it, which helps them to establish a relationship with nature, being close with “earth” they realize the gift of friendship, offering and generosity. and Tree is the best example.
Maryam and her brothers are blessed, Alhumdulillah.
